The PJ (poor joke) above might no longer remain a PJ if banana peel is replaced by a typical problematic situation one encounters in daily routine. The question remains unanswered then: Why do some people find it difficult to act beyond cure? They do think 'Prevention is The Best Cure' though! I was no different from them! But now my journey is gathering speed, hopefully in the direction that the blog is supposed to drive towards. Checkout my other blogs and work at http://www.worldOFkaizen.com/

Mission Zero-Plastic!

Are dustbin bags, sticky bags, half liter water bottle, etc. banned?

Political posters in flex material are not penalised! So does it mean flex material is exempt selectively? Or is political fraternity exempt from discipline?

Do you mean to say citizens should carry steel vessels to buy milk, meat, fish, etc. all the way to their workplaces so that they can shop on their way back home after a long day?

Don't you think exempting branded packaged goods and foods in plastic is discriminatory to small businesses?

Such and many other doubts began circulating on WhatsApp as the plastic ban was announced by the State of Maharashtra.

If such confusion was expected by design as a strategy then it's a good move by the administrators.

Good because such confusion forces people to think intentionally as it has happened already. As a result, people have at least begun thinking of alternatives out of fear of punishment though.

But targeting to achieve any (Zero-Plastic kind of) result measures without enabling the corresponding processes in place always have had serious implications with associated costs. Time and again this has got proven by itself.

In Nagpur, for instance, out of fear some people got rid of banned plastic bags by dumping them in rivulets.

If such confusion, however, is by chance then there's a bigger worry.

Bigger worry because it might mean, there's a lack of well-designed time-bound plan, also lack of the design to execute the ban itself holistically expecting it to aim Zero-Plastic target! In fact, adequate design learning from others (especially from countries successful in handling the plastic menace) is the first step in any such project. Bigger worry because lack of meticulousness in such initiatives usually leads to sub-optimisation harming the nobility of the purpose itself.

Unless every stakeholder gets mindfully engaged in averting the plastic-pollution-menace and the forthcoming disaster therefrom, the costs of the short term approaches towards it will get out of control. There's a need to take a relook at it in order to scrutinise the blanket-ban, if any, if not done so already.

Better also to be innovative on making the recycling more effective. Not only does the arrest of the plastic need to be at manufacturing level but also at desire-based or want-based consumption level. A pictorial do-don't will go a long way in preventing the confusion among the users and the administrators.

In any case the Zero-Plastic target is an arduous task at least in near future since for some applications cost effective substitute is yet to get invented.

Sustainability of the planet is the priority number-1 but the ban itself needs to be sustainable for that!

Here's my 140 character Tweet plan of action (POA) revolving around the Kaizen technique: *MISER!

Be a MISER stakeholder on Plastic!

MINDFUL of enabling process to evolve Zero-Plastic result!
INNOVATE packaging!
SCRUTINISE blanket-ban!
ELIMINATE production!
REDUCE, REUSE! Collect to RECYCLE!

(*MISER: Minimise. Improvise. Simplify. Eliminate. Reduce.)

Change is a hearty game!

I wash my cup after tea and plate after food almost immediately. As much early (JIT) you do so, as much lesser resources you consume. Because, they are easier and faster to wash with less water when they are still wet.

The other day I'd to do it with left hand because one of the fingers was swollen after clipping off my nails.

It was difficult for me because I am a right-hander.

Usually any change is difficult but possible. Try signing with your left hand if your are used to doing it with your right hand.

I'd to get the senior management team of a company to try this out the other day. The reason was their impatience on the change management initiative in their company.

It was just about a few weeks having begun the initiative. Each visit the managers would be anxious to know when would their subordinates change their work habits for the better.

Change management is about commitment to change self first (PQI, personal quality initiative). It's about putting in concerted and continued efforts during the process because it's more to do with head (mind) and heart rather than hands (physical actions) alone.

Listening to other's 'voices' (be it your employee or customer or any stakeholder for that matter) actively plays a major role in the change management process. It's not merely hearing but it's about hearing them tactfully and tenderheartedly... Hear-T in short! Active listening creates an emotional connect or a connection with their heart.

Mind (head) always connects a little later. Mind connects only after the heart gets connected. Heart itself gets connected if they see your concerted and continued actions towards the desired change rather than empty speeches and promises.

Their actions to change their habits as desired is the corollary thereafter!

Functional-Aesthetics

"Almost all crime is due to the repressed desire for aesthetic expression." Evelyn Waugh English Writer.

The concept in this blogpost was triggered by a picture that I saw painted on a wall of Rail Museum in Mysore.
It said: Way to Maharani (Queen) Saloon!

At its first sight, I was reminded of a term usually misspelled in India, Saloon for Salon: the term for a barber's shop.

I wondered what had the painting to do with the rail exhibits. In the wildest imagination, I could think of its links, if at all any, with the hairdressing of Queens of the dynasties in palaces of Mysore and around.

I found myself wrong after looking around for a while. I found the real Saloon. A part of the rail carriage was exhibited there. It was devoted to seated relaxation combined with a dining table: The Saloon!

Anyway, let me take an about-turn now. Let me expand on the thought that occurred to me.

Why do people go to a salon: a barber's shop?

Some go for their Functional Needs.
Some go for their Aesthetic Wants.
Some go for Functional-Aesthetics: This is the term, the concept that had instantaneously occurred to me then at the sight of the painting.

I 'googled' for the term Functional-Aesthetics and giggled that it didn't exist. I couldn't find one although during my limited search on internet.

Typically a haircut that's acceptable with reference to military norms is functional.

Actually long hair can be unhealthy as well as dangerous, both in military as well as in other contexts. In military setting in particular, additional reasons of their typical haircut could be to preempt accidents due to long hair, its maintenance, distractions or attractions due to them as the case may be in the warfield. These functions that it is expected to serve makes it a functional haircut.

A funny haircut acceptable only to a small group of trendy people as a fad could be termed as purely aesthetic one. It's generally acceptable as a style for its funny aesthetics more than for the function that it's expected to serve if at all.

On the same lines, a haircut typically acceptable to school norms could fall in the category of Functional-Aesthetics.

In short, 'needs' that stand the tests of an acceptable system's logically acceptable norms or standards or criteria could be termed as Functionally-Aesthetic.

'Wants or desires' that go beyond such logical norms or criteria could be termed as Aesthetic more than Functional, with reference to a given system.

A style that adds substance to the function (that it is supposed to serve) without any extra cost to the offering nor to the ecology may also stand the test of being Functionally-Aesthetic: A shirt for instance bought for it's extra-large pockets or additional pockets unconventionally located on its sleeve, say, in order to eliminate carrying an extra hand bag.

Paradoxically, a functionally-aesthtic offering to be on the right path of evolution should truly lead to multi-functionality in its usage with minimalist use of resources while at the same time simplistic-to-use, maintain & facilitate eco-friendly disposal as a part of its total lifecycle.

Functionally-Aesthetic offering in general should 'sell' more in the longer run than purely Functional or purely Aesthetic one. Because it offers value; because it offers Total Quality to all it's stakeholders. On the contrary, rest of the offerings necessarily need marketing & thereafter overselling too. Or in its absence, the rest fails to exploit its full potential.

A Lesson!

Nature and its every design itself is Functionally-Aesthetic both in its form-and-fit. That's why everything natural from food-to-fossil is pure, beautiful, value-adding and valuable. Hope human race strives to maintain it that way. Hope it draws a lesson or two to learn from (it) and invests its finite time in adding value to life rather than destroying it.

Only way to do so is by arresting unneeded human activities and unwise choice/s for want/s that create a materialistic world. Spoiled choices in particular take one away from being Functionally-Aesthetic: The choices that are far from being sustainable!

Here's a MaiKu© poem while on the subject:

Don't Forget: Stir-Coffee-Well !

Sometimes we struggle through a tasteless coffee till its last sip. Then we find sugar lying at the bottom unused.

That's LIFE: (My Haiku on it...)

I fail, I fail !

Why blame others for the hell !!

It's sweet but not stirred well..!!!

That's the dilemma of a teacher or a coach or a guru: Students forget that they themselves are the sugar. Students forget that even 'the knowledge' is sugar. They forget to 'stir' it (as also to 'stir' themselves) well!

Above message received on social media reminded me of a student of Kaizen who bumped into me on a flight.

To my question, how was Kaizen journey-to-excellence going on in his company, his response was: "Well back to 'business as usual', 'full of fire-fighting, blaming-naming', 'no time to breath', etc."

Like most do typically on leaving school, he seemed to have forgotten 'teachings' of the Kaizen-school. That the Kaizen journey itself is to get rid of such ills so that it 'helps' to take 'full-breaths'. Kaizen journey is to get people aligned towards this thought.

It's human tendency to have divergent desires and get defocused by their changing thoughts and desires. They keep dragging themselves towards the undesired: typically in a corporate setting towards individual goals. However it's the role of the leadership team to help individuals to find leads for their 'desires' in the goals of the mutual interest, towards the very purpose of its existence. It's their prime role to keep them aligned towards achieving them.

It's a compulsion by market-forces. It's a compulsion to keep improving continuously to perform at higher levels marching towards excellence while serving the stakeholders; ultimately the society and the environment. In absence of this, the daily (unmeaningful) grind is sure to make you gasp for breath every moment and perish one day.

My friend, the leader himself, had forgotten the role of leadership taught in Kaizen-school: One, that of enabling all stakeholders to make improvements. Two, that of forcing 'crying' people in particular (the ones not having 'desire' to do so) to 'get off the way'.

His leadership team had also forgotten to keep itself updated on newer ways and means to do so in order to adopt to changing environment

External coaches in Kaizen-school can show the what-why-how way and walk them by holding hands only a little far. Beyond that it is the role of internal leadership team to perform the corporate-parenting of passionately walking the shown way and taking their stakeholders along.

It was evident in his 'off the school' response that his company had forgotten it's responsibility of mastering the art and science of 'making the coffee'.

Their leadership team had forgotten it's role of being a learner, of keeping their knowledge warming. They had forgotten to keep their knowledge-of-sugar stirring.

Hoarders Of Filthy Hoardings

Recently, once again, the Honorable Mumbai High Court pushed Bombay Municipal Corporation (BMC) to remove hoardings.

Contempt of such court orders has been shamelessly going on for past so many years. Both the BMC as well as so-called 'leaders' creatively ignore court orders.

Now a days even school going children appear on the hoardings. The day is not far when family tree of a few generations appear on the hoardings alongwith 'sonography' pictures of their 'expected' children as well.

According to Maslow's hierarchy of needs, every human being has a mental need to get recognised.

In case of Hoarders-of-filth it has become a mental disease. For such people such a need seems to have become a desire ('want') since they don't have anything that public will willingly recognise. Perhaps that's why they put hoardings of their birthdays, publicity of work that they have not done, and for many more in-explainably creative reasons. They don't even bother that apart from defacing the town, at some places such hoardings create blind-spots or distractions prone to accidents as also create fire hazards: Typically 3D: Dirty-Danger-Difficult like situations.

So good that the court has initiated various actions on inaction of local municipalities.

I think in order to make such actions sustainable by making municipalities more accountable they should be asked to create a portal where the public can upload pictures of hoardings. Corresponding municipality should statutorily be made to submit a monthly-return accounting for actions taken against the number of such pictures uploaded. This will be a sort of measure of performance for their accountability.

The actions reported in the Return should go beyond the first-aid that of bringing down such hoardings within say 48 hours of uploading the pictures (by the public). The cost/consequences/punishment to the concerned officials should necessarily be preventive in nature.

In A Big-Problem?: Wear Hats To Solve It !!

Life is about tackling gaps! Gaps among:

1/ what we 'want' (i.e. what we desire to have),
2/ what we 'need' (i.e. what we need to survive) and
3/ what we 'have' (i.e. our current situation).

These gaps are referred to as problems in day to day language. Gaps may be in terms of physical, mental, financial, social or spiritual health, both at individual & societal level.

So life is about overcoming various hurdles or problem-situations in order to bridge gaps at individual & societal level. In positive sense, life is about opportunities to add value to self & society while tackling problematic situations.

This post is an extension of my blog-post titled In a Problem?: No Problem ! Dwell A While !! In that post, I dwelled upon the fact that 'dwelling' provides 'adult-in-you' to 'respect' others like 'adults'. It provides an opportunity to look at a given problematic situation in totality. It allows asking 'what-when-where-who-why-how' questions to it's components without a bias.

This ability is particularly important in order to solve chronic problems as well as crises and larger issues.

Sometimes acknowledging a problem as a problem itself is a problem as in P.J. (Poor Joke) in punchline of this blog where Mr Foolhardy falls again-and-again at same place! Like Foolhardy, some do 'love falling' and getting 'cured again-n-again' rather than taking preventive 'care'. Some hardly go beyond first-aid attitude during entire lifetime.

Why is this so? What should the case really be?

One reason may be lack of respecting discipline: the undesirable habit nurtured by both, one's own parent-ego and child-ego. Other one may be lack of training  the adult-ego to solve complicated problems.

One way to overcome the former reason is instituting strict disciplinary measures as a stick on undesired behavior of parent-and-child-ego. The other way may be to install measures for attitudinal change so that adult-ego takes active charge of the situation to steer it to a desired one.

This blog-post is about tackling the latter i.e. training mind (the adult-ego) on importance of 'dwelling meaningfully' in order to improve effectiveness of problem solving.

Problem Solving Steps

Problems can be categorized in four quadrants based on combination of:

1/ ease or difficulty level of identifying them and/or their causes and
2/ ease or difficulty in finding and/or implementing countermeasures on them.

Difficult-Difficult-type problems in particular need to be resolved step-by-step by breaking them down into smaller stones so that prioritized one can be taken one at a time. It's like breaking a mountain over a period of time in steps of blasts in a typical mine and thereafter hammering the larger (post-blast) rocks into smaller stones with an objective of making them worthy of utility.

Need for undertaking logical steps with equanimity gets enhanced with rising level of difficulty to identify the problems and/or to resolve them.

7-steps in the Plan-Do-Check-Act Improvement (Kaizen) Cycle are:

Plan Step-1: Define a problem or a goal to create an innovative utility-value
Plan Step-2: Observe gaps in the current situation with reference to the goal (This is done after the first-aid solution is put in place)
Plan Step-3: Analyse and find root-causes of the gaps
Plan Step-4: Plan countermeasures to prevent occurrence and recurrence of causes
Do Step-5: Implement countermeasures
Check Step-6: Study effect of the countermeasures
Act Step-7: 7a/ Standardize so that favorable effects are sustained
Step-7b: Rotate the above steps: 1/ until favorable effects are achieved in case of unfavorable effects, 2/ to attain higher levels in case of favorable effects, 3/ to take a new improvement goal

''Dwelling'' on a predefined agenda in each problem-solving-step allows flow of unbiased creative thoughts useful for complicated problem solving. It allows 'brain-writing' those. It involves 'speaking-to-self' by asking 'why-why & what-where-who-when-why-how' kind of questions and 'writing' the evolved thoughts.

This is contrary to 'speaking-to-others' as in brain-storming. Such a 'don't-speak' rule wearing a pink-hat virtually to represent that the problem-solver is in 'dwelling-mode' allows flow of 'wild-thoughts' that otherwise may get killed as in brain-storming.

I have added the Pink-Hat as the 7th-Hat to Edward De Bono's idea of 6-Hats: White, Red, Green, Black, Yellow And Blue, each with a purpose.

The Pink-Hat as a common one represents 'brain-writing' activity as above in each of the 7-steps that I have connected to an appropriate hat each. Pink-Hat is used in combination with each of Bono's 6- hats primary to a corresponding step. Each hat forces adult-ego to focus primarily on the agenda predefined for that particular hat and that particular step.

In step-1, Pink-Hat begins with taking ('brain-writing') inventory of problems. Then a priority problem is picked up to solve. As stated earlier, Pink-Hat is used in each step in combination with corresponding hat of that step to 'brain-write'.

In step-2, White-Hat is used to find factual gaps in an unbiased manner.

In step-3, Red-Hat is used to find root-causes of the gaps without keeping any emotional attachment to the problem.

In step-4, Green-Hat is used to find alternative ideas (innovative countermeasures) to arrest root-causes.

In step-5, Black-Hat is used to critically assess risk while innovatively implementing ideas (countermeasures) .

In step-6, Yellow-Hat is used to assess benefits of the countermeasures taken.

In step-7, Blue-Hat is used to take an overview in an unbiased manner.

Going back to the earlier blog-post, the problem therein that of locked-door not opening was Easy-Easy-type. However applying structured steps as above could have yielded additional opportunities as follows over and above the first-aid solution that 'clicked' then:

1/ Create a 'how-to' operating-procedure for odd-season working of equipment,
2/ Create a 'checklist' to prevent abnormal behavior of equipment in odd-season,
3/ Create an innovative-design or material for the door and lock capable of handling abnormal conditions.

So one can imagine the potential and impact of application of hats in structured steps in case of  Easy-Difficult-type, Difficult-Easy-type and in particular that of Difficult-Difficult-type chronic and complicated crises situations.

कधीतरी सापडेल का शोधता-शोधता ?

This one is about evolution of life on the planet with greedy human being around !

Necessity is the mother of invention, they say.
But what happens if desires become necessities?

Truly-desired-inventions will surely lag behind the inventions-for-desires. And then man will get what he deserves of his own making... The Global-Warming !

Within 35-years, even lowest monthly temperature will be hotter than we experienced so far !! And then it might be too late a realisation !!!

You seem Reasonable if you appear Un-reasonable

Just after finishing my session in a seminar at NOVOTEL Juhu, I went for a stroll at the adjacent beach.

Like a maverick, I wished to take picture of a tea-vendor there. I was impressed by his entrepreneurship, his eye-contact with prospective customers, his smile and particularly impressed by the technique (see the tea-kettle covered by a reused-tin-box) he had used in order to keep his tea-service hot-n-fresh in line with his jingled-promise, 'Gar...r... ma...a-Garam-Cha....a...a....aay' (Hottest-tea)!

My colleague laughed at me just like the colleague of the vendor who also objected me sarcastically for wishing to take their photograph. You can see all of them standing around (see picture).

Ignoring all of them, I explained to the vendor that the picture may appear in a blog for whatever worth it may be to it's readers. Not only was he most obliged to grant permission to me but also made 'other-legs' in the picture to 'disappear' at once. See the 'broad-smiley' in next picture.

After a couple of hours I was back to the hotel in order to attend some other function. I noticed that 'hot-n-fresh' snacks were being served there using a similar-but-sophisticated technique.

Immediately I grabbed the opportunity to click that picture too. Some people looked at me wondering foolish-me 'clicking' instead of 'digging' into the snacks. For them I was a novice to the 'starters'.

I am a firm believer that opportunities can be discovered as well as createdOpportunities hardly knock with intimations. That's why one needs to be prepared. When both, the preparation and opportunities, meet progress is inevitable.

The tea-vendor at Juhu-beach didn't appear before me 'by-telling'. His technique may not be unique though.

No one told me to notice it, nor to click it. I did it by 'being-aware' myself. I didn't know that a similar technique was going to appear before me after a couple of hours. I also didn't know that this subject was going to emerge in this blog post.

While taking the picture I only knew that there is some learning there that was worth capturing.

Just as there is nothing useless nor worthless in this universe, there is nothing or no-one from whom one can't learn from. Even a tiny sand-particle finds its use as raw material for Aluminum or as a worthy aggregate in construction industry. An innocent 'what is this' or 'why-this-way' question (even by a child) may lead to solution of a chronic problem that otherwise stays unsolved for decades.

Apart from an opportunity my curiosity gave me to cover the tea-vendor's matured-technique in this blog post, I could also reinforce my-thoughts on how 'value' can either get created or destroyed.

Vendor at the beach kept his business purely 'functional'. That's why he was able to offer spiced-tea at Rs 10/per serving as against Rs 500 in the Star-hotel. And I am sure he was able to do it with better profitability than the hotel barring the scale of operations. One may doubt quality of his tea as well as process of making it though. However it's worth comparing the both academically. Value provided by Rs 10 tea definitely mattered to those customers who mattered. And when-what-matters-to-whom depends on time-n-place that matters.

In the hotel one bears higher charges for so-called better or for, may I say, at times desire or want-based affluent practices. One pays extra for getting her ego polished, the hand-gloves, the uniform, the style of serving, etc. and even the smile that the maker-&-bearer is supposed to wear.

Study the investment made in the paraphernalia in the third picture: the stainless steel equipment used, polished suit the boy is wearing, etc. It may be difficult to know, though, how much of all that including the 'smile' of the bearer is genuinely better or worse than that of the beach-fellow. The beach vendor had primarily invested 'himself' more in the business rather than the (conventional) financial investment.

I have seen so-called 'clean-bearers' in so-called star-hotels arranging cups with their bare-fingers dipped into it when no one is there to watch. On the other hand, final serving is in style with hand-gloves on.

One activity happens behind the screen while the other in front of it. Because that's the way quality and value gets perceived differentially. Actually it's relative. It's as good as in the hands-mind-and-spirit of the persons involved in executing-managing-leading-and-delivering it.

Purpose of this blog post is actually to bring out more learning than the bonus-tips learnt as above.

The learning:

Being proactive or reactive itself is relative!

If some activity done 'then' (at a given point in time in past) is proved useful and preventive in future, in the hindsight it's considered as proactive. Until then more often it's laughed at as being idiosyncratic. For people around me on the beach, I might have appeared as an idiosyncratic taking pictures 'reactively-n-randomly'.

Why bother about others particularly if you have chosen to perform an act with a clear aim and calculated risk in mind! In that case why should that activity not be considered as proactive and worth moving ahead with although for others it might appear as useless!

While behaving in such a maverick-way, you may find, not one-or-two but many distractors around. It's worth ignoring them.

It's worth sticking to your stand if you have clarity. One must have humility though to make corrections to one's aim as well as modus-operendi by picking up threads from critics and distractors. It's surely advantageous to do so.

Albert Einstein did it.
Thomas Alva Edison did it the maverick-way.
Mahatma Gandhi did it.
Nelson Mandela did it.

Conventionally Sir Issac Newton should have eaten 'the apple that fell down'. He didn't. That's why he could do what he did.

They all seemed unreasonable 'then' for the world around.
Now in the hindsight what do those critics say about Einstein-Edison-Newton.

By-the-way, I do see a Mini-Edison in the person who first conceived a reused-tin-box in order to cover the tea-kettle. Purpose: to protect fire below it from getting extinguished. His technique is already standardized by his fraternity.

I am looking forward to some improvements over this itself. May be there are some already**. If not, my suggestion is to have one more tin-box outside the current one covering the kettle also. And between the two tin-boxes a thermocoal inserted as an insulator so that the tea-kettle stays hot for a longer time. Imagine, even if 20% re-heats are eliminated it's a saving of 20% fuel in addition to what is already saved so far.

But meanwhile for whatever is done, he is an incremental-innovator for me. He has innovated in his own context. He's empowered himself to exercise his own authority to conserve energy. Imagine the miracle if everyone saves so with a little more consciousness. Imagine overcoming difficulties creatively (without fear of 'failure' in conventional sense of the world) instead of crying about them.

For me the behavior of refusing to stay stuck in the 'fix-it' kind of 'Jugaadi-Indian' approach, behavior of making a 'sincere-attempt-to-try' to make-it-better on-goingly is a success. This is the Kaizen-approach invented by Toyota where everyone picks-up a 'cry' in order to make an improvement upon although there may not be 'anyone-to-cry'.

For me the"3-Idiots" (from Hindi-Movie) kind of ingenious ones who experiment their unconventional-thoughts are successful Kaizenees rather than so-called genius-preachers, the poison-ees who adhere to conventions. The latter lock themselves in status-quo(s), conventional-thoughts and 'cries' prevailing around.

So what's the take-home?

It may be other's job to consider you a Big-Fool, a Big-Idiot, and what-not. It may be their job not-once but each-day to kill your motivation, enthusiasm, and with that kill your original ideas or even incremental ones built on others.

But it's your own (job) to consider yourself above such foolishness particularly if you know your aim and purpose of being: The self-actualization! It's your own duty to see yourself in the ranks of 'Gandhiji-Edison-Einstein-Newton-to-be' without being foolishly over-confident though and with 1000xTimes 'their-humility' if not more. That's a way to make some mark on your name.

It may take longer-than-you-think though for your-own-small-world around you to say: Progress in this particular domain is because of 'unreasonableness' of This-Man!

In any case, no one would dare to deny the fact as someone has rightly said that "All the progress in this world is because of unreasonable people"!!

Chocolate ad that makes you feel sticky

How would you feel if.. an adult like me sitting on your sofa opens a chocolate bar with unwashed hands.. paws fingers exploring deep into the brown colored mass of the chocolate.. manages to push (with a little struggle) two fingers coated with chocolate into mouth while the rest touching cheeks all over.. and then look somewhat like a 'licking' birthday boy forced into your eyeballs?

More likely that you may (although actually not) pick such an adult up with a tong in order to flush her down the gutter so that there is no question of letting such a fool in your home ever again, forget eyeballs.

Would the feeling be different then on viewing such a chocolate-advertisement on TV?

Unlikely!

Feelings of the viewers may not be different but actions may be since the chocolate-clad models surely don't look as bad as me.

Anyway, is it necessary to show such acts in advertisements so much away from reality that they get difficult to comprehend: Like typically an otherwise well-mannered looking adult behaving childish.

Intention of the ad may be to project a person behaving child-like and happier on getting 'that' particular chocolate brand in hand. But there is a thin line between being childish and being child-like.

Being child-like may be acceptable but many may not subscribe to the thought of looking like a 'licking' dirty-child.

Internet is full of "10 Tips for creating effective ads" and "5 Most effective tips to connect with target", etc.

They are all good and practical tips as long as advertisers be consciously careful not to take their target-viewers-customers for granted. They might be doing so inadvertently though in their enthusiasm to grab attention of eye-balls within 'max-3-seconds-140-characters' kind of 'fast-marketing-communication-era'.

I would like to add this tip to checklists if it's not already-there in the treasure on net.

A powerful test-marketing of the ad itself in this context might prove helpful in making advertisements more effective.
